A Community-Centric Plan of Action

Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) adopts a participatory approach in the planning, execution, and evaluation of its various programmes. It ensures sustainability by designing appropriate withdrawal strategies and aligning programmes with the needs of the community.

These requirements are identified through:

Meeting and interaction with the community at various forums.
Need-assessment studies
Consultations with Government departments
Analysis of secondary data

TCSRD defines both short-term and long-term goals across projects that focus on people, livestock and environment. The organisation prioritises reaching the most isolated or marginalized communities, selecting beneficiaries using participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools.

Partnering with Community

TCSRD firmly believes in working hand-in-hand with the community.

To build ownership and long-term sustainability, it supports and strengthens community-based organisations (CBOs), such as:

Self-help groups
User groups
Farmers’ groups
Youth clubs, etc.

To foster a sense of ownership, project planning and execution are carried out with community involvement. They also contribute in forms of labour, cash, etc. to help meet project costs. These projects are ultimately handed over to the CBOs, who ensure continuous sustainability and growth.

Financial Assistance

The funding agencies for TCSRD’s programmes are government, corporates and national / international organisations. Need-based project proposals are prepared and are submitted to like-minded funding organisations and government departments for partnering with government schemes. Various funding agencies also approach TCSRD for implementation of issue-based programmes.

Building Capacity

Capacity-building is central to TCSRD’s strategy for empowering stakeholders and ensuring the success of its initiatives.

Training sessions are organised on various aspects like:

Leadership qualities
Group dynamics
Awareness of best practices through exposure visits
Financial linkages, etc.

We also arrange training programmes for TCSRD volunteers and staff to develop their skills and expertise for successful implementation of programmes in areas like community mobilisation, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), institution building and environment education, etc.

Monitoring and Evaluation

It’s important to monitor and assess the programmes so as to take apt measures before, during and after the project implementation to understand the impact.

Partnering for a Cause

Our primary target is to achieve the highest impact in community development. To ensure this, we partner with NGOs, educational institutes, tech organisations to bring in their expertise. For projects with national/global significance, we also collaborate with government bodies and authorities.

Volunteering Programme

TCSRD, at all its locations, provides various opportunities for TCL employees and their family members to join hands in improving the socio-economic and environmental conditions in the areas where they live. The programmes are organised based on the issues existing in the area and the interest of volunteers to work on those issues.
